The Days Melt Into Each Other or How Is It May Already

One month in from my last post and one week shy of the two month mark when the first shelter-in-place order went into effect and we’ve still got to get through the end of May before the shelter might be lifted.  It’s been surreal.  I mean, in addition to all this virus stuff we have to deal with, now Microsoft has deemed the double space after a period incorrect and will flag it as an error in Word.  Sorry, after about 45 years of typing, my right thumb will always bang that space bar twice after a period.  Period.

Since my last post, I received an order of MCD frames.  Unprecedented demand has whittled the incoming frames by over half and the 53cm size has already sold out.  I completely closed the shop for two weeks to all incoming work so that I could dedicate my time to prepping and shipping the frames and building bikes.  Once that was complete, I “opened” the shop for service.  But I did not OPEN the shop.  The shop is basically closed to browsing.  I’m doing appointments only for service.  I’m open if you need to purchase a tire, tube or other item, but it’s one person at a time and anyone coming to the front door will need a face covering.  I updated the Home Page to reflect this in a bit more detail.

The biggest change was to my hours.  New hours are Monday-Friday 11-5 and closed on the weekend.  Since I started appointments only, the service department has been busy, with 18 bikes serviced last week.  There was a lot of rejuvenating Shimano Rapidfire shifters whose pawls were gummed up.  With the gym being closed, bikes are the next best thing for getting exercise.  Personally, I think they’re the best thing.

In addition to the service shop, frame sales have been good.  Good enough that I’ve placed orders for more Monstercross and Road+ frames.  It looks like I’ll need to be ordering more MCD frames soon too.  Lead time on frames is at least 6 months, so it will be November at the earliest when more frames will be available.  I’m down to a handful of rim brake Road frames in sizes 56cm and 62cm.  When those are gone, they’re gone.  Due to slow demand and lack of storage space, that frame will be discontinued.  I have something else in the works to replace it.  Shhh, don’t tell anyone.  more later.  And I’ve got another new model frame that’s on order.  I’ll post some details on that soon.  But it’s on my Instagram page if you’ve got to find out now.

Busy?  Yeah, I’ve been busy.  Here’s some pics of recent builds and the new MCD.
