It’s no secret that all of Black Mountain Cycles bikes are designed around drop bars. I’ve had an obsession with riding drop bars off-road since I converted my mountain bike in 1987. The drop bar has always been more comfortable for me to ride. The first drop bar bikes from Black Mountain Cycles were outgrowths from the cyclocross, and later gravel, world. The La Cabra is the drop-bar mountain bike from Black Mountain Cycles.
Like all the other frames from Black Mountain Cycles, the La Cabra is made with a selection of heat-treated cro-moly tubing to give it the overall ride and stability I was seeking. Bikepacking.com sums it up nicely in their review of the La Cabra: “The interesting thing about the La Cabra is that it seems to exhibit an ideal balance between light and fast handling and stability. I was pleasantly surprised with how confident it felt when descending, particularly on fast gravel, and how stable it was when climbing slowly. It feels generally solid and in control, perhaps benefiting from longer chainstays and a low bottom bracket.” That was the exact feeling I sought. Nailed it.
