Disc Brake Frames On The Way

There’s good and bad news.  The good news is that the MCD and Road+ frames are in a container, on a boat, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.  The bad news is that more of the MCD frames have already sold out.  As of today the following frame sizes/colors are sold out:
59cm – both Olive Oil and Pink
56cm – both Olive Oil and Pink
53cm – Olive Oil
50cm – Olive Oil

What does that leave?  Olive Oil 44cm and 47cm are available (only a couple of each size).  Pink 44cm, 47cm, 50cm, and 53cm are available in limited quantities.  And all sizes/colors of the Road+ are available.

In the somewhat good news category, there are more MCD frames in Olive Oil on order with an ETA of early to mid-Fall.  Along with those frames, more Monstercross and Road frames of the rim brake variety are also on order to fill in gaps.

The demand for MCD and Road+ complete bikes has also been high.  So high, in fact, that I’m going to have to cease taking orders for completes built with the new Shimano 105 R7000 components in both mechanical and hydraulic brake configurations.  I’ve tapped out the early orders I’ve placed for the new components that are scheduled to start arriving, after being delayed, the second week of July.  Even Ultegra R8000 is very limited.  If I were to order a new Ultegra R8020 shift/hydraulic brake lever set today, the ETA is October – 4 month wait.  How are shops supposed to survive when we can’t get meat and potato parts?  I’ve always been a Shimano guy, but SRAM is looking good these days.

The random availability of Shimano parts at the moment is making it tough.  I might be able to do some mixing/matching to put together a mechanical disc bike, but no Shimano hydraulic builds.  SRAM hydraulic is no problem.  Wheelsets with the new 12mm thru-axle Shimano 105 R7070 hubs are no problem.  I’ve got enough of the hubs on order to allow building of the current wheelsets that are on order plus about another 10 or so.   Hubs will arrive about the same time as the frames.  I’ll be busy.

ETA on the disc frames is early July.  The vessel with the frames is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles on July 2.  It’ll be in dock in LA a day or two and then up to Oakland to unload the frames probably around the 5th.  I’m thinking I should receive the frames around the 10th.  Soon.  In the mean time, I’ll need to work on updating the webstore, building wheels, losing sleep thinking about managing parts for builds.  I’ve already got all the individual build boxes bulging with parts for bike builds – except for those nice blue boxes that contain the Shimano parts…

Here’s some photos of the frames as they were going through the paint line.
