Description
Rim brakes. Remember rim brakes? And tubeless compatible. Tubeless compatible? What does that mean. It means that the rim well profile is such that it has this shelf at the bead that helps lock a tire bead in place. With the addition of tire sealant, this means you can run your tires without tubes. And that means you can run lower tire pressure without the risk of pinch flats. Lower pressure – better traction, more comfort. This wheelset is a great addition to the Black Mountain Cycles Monstercross frames. Rim brakes and tubeless – what a great combo.
All wheelsets are 32h by default
Rim choices
- Boyd Rouleur – 21mm internal rim width, run tires tubeless up to 48mm
- DT Swiss R460 – 18mm internal rim width, run tires tubeless up to 35mm
- Velocity Quill – 21mm internal rim width, run tires tubeless up to 48mm
- Velocity Cliffhanger – 25mm internal rim width, run tires up to 65mm (note that max tire size on Monstercross frame is 50mm)
- Which rim should I use? The R460 rim is suitable for road use and light gravle with 35mm max tires. The Quill rim is a good all-rounder. Choose the Rouleur rim if you’re after a bit more durability than the Quill or if you’re a heavier rider. The Cliffhanger is a bomb-proof rim that will get you to the end of the earth and back, but you wouldn’t want to be sprinting for city limits signs on it.
