Description
The WTB saddle first showed up in their 1994 catalog. It was an immediate hit among riders. It’s one of my top two favorite saddles (the other being the Cinelli Unicanitor, which the SST is based on). The top of the saddle is flattish making for a comfortable sitting position for all types of riding positions. The droopy nose aids in preventing shorts/clothing from being snagged by the nose when moving around on the bike or mounting the saddle. Ask any mountain biker from the ’90s what their favorite saddle was/is and, chances are, the SST will top that list.
Blue Lug asked me last year if we could do a Black Mountain Cycles branded saddle with WTB (they’re big fans of WTB saddles like I am). I didn’t really want to co-brand a saddle unless we could do it with the SST saddle, which WTB hasn’t produced for maybe 10+ years. I reached out to my buddy Gary at WTB to find out if it could be done and, thankfully, the production molds were still in existence. The shell mold is actually the mold currently used to produce their Pure model.
So, here it is. It’s a bit different than the original in that the padding is slightly thicker. This will make a great addition to a vintage mountain bike build. I think it will also be great on an all-rounder / commuter bike too.
