Black Mountain Cycles Mod Zero Gravel Bike Review – Photo by John Watson

I sent John Watson of The Radavist a Mod Zero and wheelset last year. Initially, he thought he needed a 59cm size, because that’s a size he would ride. Knowing John in person, I knew the 56cm size would be a better fit as I explained that a 56cm Mod Zero fits more like a traditional 62cm frame.

Smooth, versatile, and “this bike is pretty much the perfect gravel platform…” Just a few of the descriptors in the review. Read the full review on The Radavist. Thanks, John!

John nailed it on that review. Going on three years in, I still love my Mod Zero. In fact, I just sold my carbon gravel ‘race’ bike because I like riding the MZ so much better. The carbon bike just sat in the corner.

I’ll be doing a 9-day unsupported gravel bikepacking trip in June on my Mod Zero too… That’ll undoubtedly be a highlight of the 2026 season.

Any news on the next shipment? Getting anxious 🙂
